A nature day here need not become a multi-day expedition. Start around Tarapoto with Ahuashiyacu and a separate visit to Lamas. For more time with plants and birds, make room for Moyobamba and somewhere such as Waqanki. The useful choice is how long to spend at each place, not how many outings fit.
With limited time, stay around Tarapoto. For two bases, allow a separate transfer block and a full visiting day around Moyobamba.
