Manú and Tambopata are not interchangeable jungle trips. Choose the departure point and nature experience you want to make time for.

What to expect

Heading to the forest after Cusco? Decide which way to go first. For Tambopata, look at Puerto Maldonado and a stay with specific outings. A Manú programme may follow the transition from mountains to cloud forest or travel much farther into the river region. Ask not only ‘how many days?’ but ‘where do those days take us?’

Which area is best for wildlife?

A useful comparison depends on locations, guiding and observation time. Ask what the trip actually visits; a longer species list does not prove a better trip.

Is Puerto Maldonado only for Tambopata?

No. SERNANP also describes a Manú approach from Puerto Maldonado. That is a separate journey, not an outing automatically included in a Tambopata stay.
